Gateway at Tun Abang Haji Openg road


 The Gate that was installed on Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg in front of the Sarawak Foundation building, behind the Tun Abdul Razak Development Hall. This gate reads "10 Tahun Sarawak Merdeka dalam Malaysia, Masyarakat berkeb udayaan Malaysia" This gate was made in 1973 which is a period of ten years Independent Sarawak

Eating "Nasi temuan" between bride and groom.


 Eating "Nasi temuan" between bride and groom.Circa 1959.In Sarawak there is a tradition where in the Wedding Ceremony there is a "Custom of Eating Temuan Rice". It is a competition between the Groom and the Bride. The Custom of Eating Temuan Rice' or 'Meeting Rice' is symbolic of the first meeting between the Groom and the Bride.

The groom and the bride will sit facing each other, then the assistant will open the lid of the rice with a count of 1, 2, 3. The groom and the bride will quickly fight to take the rice and feed it to each other's mouths. Who is the fastest is counted as the winner.

Round 1 feed to own mouth,

Round 2 feed to partner's mouth,

Round 3 feed into your own mouth.

Bus Express station in Miri

Bus Express station in Miri.From 1990's to the present year (2022) the situation here is still the same,nothing much difference. There is only a proposal to build a new bus station near the Hospital. (Now under construction) The situation of Bus station will totally change in 2 years time.

Around Jalan Masjid in early 1960's


 Around Jalan Masjid in early 1960's, the building  in construction next to the road was the Forest Department Building. This building was demolished in the late 1980's and replaced by the Saujana building, a parking lot and a Food Center.

Three kayan men singing to welcome the Governor of Sarawak


 Photograph showing three kayan men singing. Two of the men are wearing loin clothes and caps, one is wearing a shirt, loose checked trousers and a cap. The three men have their arms around each others' shoulders. A fourth man is seated in the front, left side. He wears the same woven cap as the others, with a singlet and bead necklaces and bracelets. All the men are completely bald, and have stretched earlobes. The men were singing to welcome the Governor of Sarawak.

Kampung boyan view in 1999


 This is a common sight on the coast of Kampung Boyan, around 1999. At that time, houses were found on the edge of the river. Only a few years later, the houses on the edge of the river from Kampung Boyan, Kampung Gersik, Kampung Sourabaya Hulu and Hilir were moved to the Rampangi area, Demak and Selang.

The view across the river can be seen completely from the Holiday Inn Hotel (now Grand Magherita) Now, the house area here is all empty and some area were only filled with food stalls from local residents.

Kuching Rural District Council office nearby to Mahkamah Syariah


 Kuching Rural District Council (KRDC) office nearby to Mahkamah Syariah at Satok area.This Office was here until 1991 when it transfer to a new Office at Pedawan area.On 1st August 1996, KRDC was elevated to Padawan Municipal Council.This office was demolished and another twin buildings of the Syariah Court was build in this area.

The Penan man is seated on the floor, other tribemmen around him looking on. The Penan men wear arm bands of wood and leg bands of plant fibre. They also have stretched earlobes, in which they wear rings. Only the Penan wore bead necklaces tight around their throat, as can be seen in this photograph.

Sylvia Cinema at Barrack road Kuching

Penambang at Ang Cheng Ho Jetty Padungan


 This penambang is near to Ang Cheng Ho Jetty in Jalan Ang Cheng Ho, Padungan. This jetty is Kampung Semarang and Kampung Pulo Ulu. There is also a jetty in the Tukang Besi area nearby, but it has been closed as the area has developed new apartments.

The shape of the penambang in the ulu area(Pengkalan Batu,Pengkalan Boyan and Kampung nearby) is different from the penambang at  ​​Kampung Sourabaya and downstream. The shape of this penambang is an example of a penambang that we can see here.Most of penambang owner here are from local Kampung compare to Penambang rider at Ulu are from Kota Samarahan.Photo taken in 1999.

Women winnowing rice in Land Dayak house

The elderly woman on the left side is holding a child, while the woman to siiting on the right winnows rice by tossing it into the air on woven mats. A woven mat, with a pile of rice on it, sits between the two women.

M.V Bidor owned by the Sarawak Steamship Company


 M.V Bidor owned by the Sarawak Steamship Company.With a thriving business witnessing from just boarding at the Sarawak Kingdom government building finally in 1930, Steamship Company Limited was able to have its own building not far from Court House. The building still exists today which is the building that houses the Kuching Waterfront bazaar now.
