 The Borneo Company office and store, circa 1960's, fronting Keppel Road.A unique company that existed during the Brooke's family administration and control of Sarawak was the Borneo Company Limited.  It was referred to briefly as 'Borneo Company'.  It was founded in London in 1856 and established its operation in Kuching in the same year.  

The Company carried out business throughout Sarawak during the Brooke days (1841 - 1941) and during the British colonial period (1946-1963).  The Borneo Company Limited was granted sole public company operating rights in Sarawak in 1856 and had strategic interests in minerals, timber, agriculture, shipping and financing government commercial schemes. In the 1960's, the Company's operation in Bintulu was carried out at a wooden shophouse along the Keppel Road (see top picture) The Borneo Company faced changing fortunes when in 1963 it was re-named as SEBOR Holdings (Sarawak) Sendirian Berhad and partly owned by SEDC Sarawak.

 However, in 1967 Borneo Company merged with Inchcape Group of UK and run as subsidiary of the group.  In 2007, the Company was taken over by Hong Kong-based company, Integrated Distribution Services (IDS) Group Limited.

 Bandar Bintulu, around early 1990s. All these building blocks are still here, the airport behind has moved to a new area, the airport area is now all half developed. There are blocks of shops and new lodging apartment can be seen there now.The roads in the city center you see now are one way only now, all the roads in the city have been changed to facilitate movement within the city.

St. Joseph Cathederal , a Church with Gothic style.Located at infront of St.Joseph school.This church demolished after new church build nearby.,it was demolished because the structure of the church is old and will become a threat to the church members.

However,this airport fully closed in 2002,as new bigger and modern Bintulu Airport open.The new Airport located about 25 km from Bintulu Town Center.Since the closing of this old Airport,the old runway becoming centre for several Local events such as Autoshow,International Kite Festival and lots more.This area also has been developed for development of Shopping Complex and apartment.

PUB Terbesar di Malaysia

PUB terbesar di Sarawak atau Malaysia,itu yang selalu diceritakan oleh kawan kawan dahulu  kalau nak pergi melawat Bintulu.

PUB Terbesar? Ya..Siap ada Makcik-makcik dan Pakcik-pakcik yang ada pergi PUB ni..

Mula-mula hairan jugak mendengarnya,tapi bagi orang Bintulu,yang tinggal di Bintulu dan pernah tinggal di Bintulu,memang tahu apakah PUB yang dimaksudkan ini,iaitu Pasar Utama Bintulu yang terletak di tebingan Sungai Kemena.Tempat tumpuan utama masyarakat Bintulu untuk membeli keperluan harian teritama barangan basah seperti ikan,daging,ayam dan sayur-sayuran.

Jadi kalau nak pergi Bintulu,jangan lupa ke PUB di sana.

Paragon and Street Mall in Bintulu

Salah satu bandar yang semakin berkembang pesat di Sarawak adalah Bintulu,beberapa tahun lepas Bintulu agak ketinggalan dari segi pembangunan dan Infrastruktur.Namun sejak beberapa tahun kebelakangan ini Bintulu sudah dikatakan berdiri sama tinggi dan duduk sama rendah dengan bandar-bandar lain di Sarawak.

Salah satu projek yang agak besar di sini ialah Projek Pembangunan kawasan Lapangan terbang lama Bintulu di tengah-tengah bandar Bintulu.Sebahagian kawasan ini telah dibangunkan dengan projek Paragon ,Pusat membeli belah dan apartment.Projek ini banyak memberi Impak kepada kawasan berdekatan.

Namun secara kontranya,apakah akan terjadi kepada kawasan kawasan  penempatan berhampiran ?adakan akan dipindahkan untuk pembangunan dan sedikit sebanyak bakal menghilangkan Jati Diri dan Imej Bandar Bintulu kelak.
