The Aurora Hotel

The Aurora Hotel, which broke ground in 1952 and grandly opened on November 25, 1955, is the most luxurious hotel in Kuching and a social place for upper class society. The building behind the Aurora Hotel is the St. Thomas School.

Before the Aurora Hotel, this area was where the Sarawak Union Club was located, the Aurora Hotel was demolished in the early 1990s and replaced by the current Independence Palace Hotel.

As you can see from the picture, the open space between the Aurora Hotel and St Thomas’ School was once built in the famous Kuching Building in the 1980s. Circa 1960's.
