Majlis Tertinggi Pertama Sarawak

Majlis Tertinggi pertama dengan pelantikan Stephen Kalong Ningkan, Pengerusi Sarawak National Party (SNAP) sebagai Ketua Menteri Sarawak yang pertama.

Ahli lain Majlis Tertinggi itu terdiri daripada Abdul Taib Mahmud, James Wong Kim Ming, Dunstan Endawie anak Enchana, Awang Hipni Pengiran Annu dan Teo Kui Seng.

Lebuh Jawa ,photo aboved in 1999,and the second one from recent years.There's a lot activities on the area during those days, full of people commuting through the bus station,local farmers selling fresh produce,garment store selling items.Nowadays this place become a regular road with only regular activities.

The Waterfront tower

The Waterfront tower.There is two tower,in the Pengkalan Batu side and the opposite site at Pengkalan Sapi area,sadly this tower in Pengkalan Batu has been demoished to make way for the new Darul Hana Bridge.

A walkway with waterfall to Fort Magherita

Walkway (with cascading waterfall) between DUN Building and Fort Margherita taking shape nicely.To those who want to go to Fort Magherita using this route,just pick a penambang at Waterfront and go to Pengkalan Kampung Boyan with cost of 0.50 cent per trip.

A busy Gambier Street

 

 Gambir street in 1960's.Gambir area are well known for a several jetty and port for ship and vessel uploading their items.Lorries waiting for the items nearby and make this area once a very busy street.

Gambir street in 1980's. Still busy like in the 1960's and before.This area slowly less busier at the end of 1980's where most of the Express Boat seized their operation (because have an alternative roads) and Express wharf moved to Pending area.

Seikh Gendang dan amalan bermukun

Seikh Gendang dan gendangnya.Bila disebut bergendang,tidak jauh akan lari dengan istilah bermukun,menopeng atau berpantun.Budaya ini dapat dilihat jelas dari kawasan Teluk Melano hingga sebahagian kawasan Sabah dan Labuan.Walaupun sinonim dengan masyarakat Melayu,namun bergendang ini ada juga dipraktikkan oleh masyarakat Melanau,Kedayan dan Iban di sesetengah bahagian.

Acara bergendang biasanya dilakukakn ketika majlis keramaian seperti acara perkahwinan di mana untuk memeriahkan suasana di rumah pengantin.Namun di zaman moden ini,acara seperti ini amat jarang dilakukan kerana pilihan alternative lain seperti berkaraoke..Tapi ,dalam masa yang sama masih ada juga golongan yang masih mempertahankan budaya ini agar tidak lapuk dek zaman kelak.

Old Kubah Ria Building

Old Kubah Ria building,now demolished.Location ,opposite the current Kubah Ria.For those born in 1980's and before, Kubah Riia is one of the house hold name for Kuchingites.Back then,there's no many Food Court in Kuching.There are few attraction here that i can name which is Pak Mos Ayam Panggang and Pizza Ria.Beside food there is also a Barber Shop ( Anjakan Paradigma Barber Shop),a Jamming Studio and few shop more that i can't recall.

For Pak Mos Ayam Panggang and Pizza Ria,both of this business still availabale in New Kubah Ria.Next year (2020) will be a 10th anniversary for new Kubah Ria and also the end of Old Kubah Ria.The new Kubah Ria building is more spacious,cleaner and attract more people because have more variety of food and drink beside have a beautiful view of Sarawak River.

Shophouses at Junction of Jalan McDougall and Jalan Tabuan.Photo taken in 1950's.This area well known for student from St.Thomas and St.Mary stop by buying some snack and drink.The Libra shop has been there almost 30 years (as i know) ,before those years,i;m not sure this shophouses are for.

In front of this shophouses is a traffic light,but before that it was a small roundabout.The McDougall road behind the shophouses is still narrow in the photo compare to today which have 4 lane.
