KUCHING: SIDMA College Sarawak (SIDMA College) has signed a sales and purchase agreement with Chong Kia Hoi Realty Sdn Bhd (CKH Realty) for a piece of land situated at MetroCity in Matang.
“As the biggest Unitar Regional Centre for Unitar International University, this signing ceremony marks another important step in our progress,” highlighted Prof Dr Morni bin Kambrie, chairman of SIDMA College Sarawak during the signing ceremony between the two groupd.
This land will be used for the construction of a new campus for SIDMA College, to accommodate the 1,300 plus students at the current Kuching campus located at Jalan Haji Taha.
The new campus will be a six-storey building consisting of three blocks, which should be able to accommodate a total of 4,000 plus students over time.
There will be an examination hall on campus which will also be converted into a source of revenue for the college, whereby it can be rented out on Saturdays or Sundays for events or functions such as weddings.
Kambrie also reiterated that MetroCity is a well-planned satellite town by itself as there is a mosque, church, apartments, condominium and more than sufficient housing for SIDMA College’s students.
Overall, he foresees better intakes once the new campus is opened as they will be able to accommodate more students.
Similarly, the chairman and managing director of CKH Realty, Chong Kia Hoi noted that setting up a university campus on its development is a milestone event for the company.
“Today, I’m so pleased that our vision to promote the intellectual development of the society has been achieved by setting up a university inside our development,” Chong said.
He added that next to the campus there will be a four-storey urban bus transit terminal built, while in other areas of the development, there will also be a six-storey private hospital, a hypermarket, a petrol station (Petronas), a 24-hours KFC drive-through restaurant, a Mcdonalds fast food restaurant and others.
