Landscape retro of Kampung Bako

Photograph showing a waterfront village,Bako Village which taken from above. On the foreshore are groups of buildings, many built on stilts, with boats moored nearby. Behind the village, dense vegetation covers the hills and flats of the landscape. In the distant background, mist covered mountains (Mount Matang is the hightest mountain) are visible. Bako was once only accessible by boat. In Malay, the name means 'mangrove trees'. The houses are built on stilts because the village is flooded at high tide (this photograph was taken at low tide). The hill behind the village is covered with rubber trees.
